Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Victoria Ocampo (1890-1979) was the founderĀ of the mythic Sur magazine, one of the most influential literary journals of her time.
Victoria was a patron of the arts and the first woman to be admittedĀ to the Argentine Academy of Letters (1976). She was āthe quintessentialĀ Argentine womanā according to famed Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges.
Her circle included some of the most relevant artists and intellectualsĀ of the twentieth century. Victoria hosted Indira Gandhi, Igor StravinskyĀ and Antoine de Saint-Exupery at her luxurious Villa Ocampo in Buenos Aires.
She also held a brief relationship with Rabindranath TagoreĀ during the poetās journey to South America.
